The Balint Society:  www.balint.co.uk : The Balint Society was founded in 1969 to continue the work begun by Michael and Enid Balint in the 1950s. The aim of the Society is to help general practitioners towards a better understanding of the emotional content of the doctor-patient relationship. The Balint method consists of regular case discussion in small groups under the guidance of a qualified group leader. The work of the group involves both training and research.Membership of the Society is open to all general practitioners who have completed one year in a Balint group. Associate membership is available to all those involved in health care work including doctors, nurses, psychotherapists and counsellors. Students are especially welcome.

The British Association of Sexual and Relationship Therapy (BASRT): www.basrt.org.uk   This site has information about psychosexual therapy, accredited therapists, training and education programmes.                        

The Family Planning Association :   www.fpa.org.uk This site has a lot of useful information on various aspects of sexual health including contraception, pregnancy and sexually transmitted. The site also suggests some further useful link sites

Harcourt Women's and Men's Health Homepage:  www.harcourt-international.com/womenshealth     On the Harcourt Women's and Men's Health Homepage you will find titles covering all aspects of Women's and Men's sexual health, ranging from Psychosexual Health Care to Men's health promotion.         

The Institute of Psychosexual Medicine: www.ipm.org.uk  The IPM provides education, training and research in psychosexual medicine for doctors in the UK.Physical and emotional factors, sometimes at a subconscious level, can prevent someone from experiencing a happy and fulfilling sex life. Doctors practice psychosexual medicine by helping a person to understand the origin of their sexual difficulty. Once the problem is understood the doctor and patient can work together to help things change. IPM training is unique in bringing together mind and body. National strategy for sexual health and HIV :  www.doh.gov.uk/nshs/index.htm  The consultation document about a National Strategy for Sexual Health and HIV was launched by the UK Department of Health on 27th July 2001. The strategy is planned to "modernise and restructure services to meet patients' needs, aiming to prevent the spread of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and HIV and improve care and treatment for those who need it".  In addition to the strategy document, which is in PDF requiring Adobe Acrobat, the site includes press releases, background papers and progress reports.

The RCM is Britain’s professional union of midwives. The RCM website offers overviews of the union's work, contacts and details about how to join.

Royal College of Nursing: www.rcn.org.uk
The RCN, Britian’s professional union of nurses, list all their campaigns, aims, activities and information services on their website. The site also offers discussion forums on a broad range of nursing topics.

Royal Society of Medicine: www.rsm.ac.uk/sexual-health  This Section was previously called Sexual Medicine & Family Planning Forum Aims: A group under which all the organisations and individuals working in the sexual medicine and family planning fields meet and talk about subjects of common interest and discuss new and controversial issues.

Nursing & Midwifery Council  www.nmc-uk.org   The UKCC is the biggest regulatory body in the world.  To achieve its aims it : maintains a register of qualified nurses, midwives and health visitors, sets standards for education, practice and conduct, provides advice for nurses, midwives and health visitors, considers allegations of misconduct or unfitness to practise due to ill health.
